Problem Statement

Most people want to explore more in their everyday lives. Maybe it’s trying new food, going outside more, learning about different cultures, or just breaking out of the same old routine. But the tools out there make it feel like a chore; it's all checklists and tracking, no fun, no energy, no real motivation to keep going.

This app changes that. It turns real-life exploration into something that feels like a game. You pick quests, earn titles, unlock rewards, and share the journey with friends. It’s progress you can actually feel; like leveling up, but in the real world.

Who is the User?

Malik is 26, lives in LA, and works freelance as a content creator. He’s spontaneous, social, and always down to explore something new : a hidden café, a street fair, or just a cool-looking alley.
He loves turning everyday moments into stories, and he’s drawn to apps that make life feel a little more like a game. That’s why this one clicked. It gives him fun, low-pressure quests that fit into his day and inspire content along the way. For Malik, it’s not about productivity; it’s about making regular days feel worth remembering.

Competitive Apps in Focus

Apps like The Conqueror Challenges, Goosechase, and Geocaching have successfully gamified real-world exploration, often through fitness goals, scavenger hunts, or competitive challenges. While they excel at motivating users through extrinsic rewards like medals or leaderboards, they often focus on structured, goal-oriented experiences.

What sets this app apart is its emphasis on spontaneous, lightweight exploration tied to real-world cultural and social discovery — particularly in urban environments like Los Angeles. Instead of long-term fitness tracking or rigid task completion, this app encourages playful, self-driven quests that help users explore local events, hidden gems, and creative activities in a way that feels personal and shareable.

It’s not just about completing a challenge — it’s about making everyday life feel like a story worth telling.

Concept: Why Minecraft?

I chose the name JourneyCraft because it reminded me of the crafting table in Minecraft. In the game, that table is how you build tools and shape your adventure. It’s simple but powerful; a place where your next move begins.

That’s what I wanted this app to feel like. A space where you can shape your own journey. Not by following someone else’s map, but by exploring what excites you, trying new things, and making everyday life feel a little more fun and meaningful.

JourneyCraft is about crafting your own path, one small adventure at a time.

Logo Design, Colors and Font

I wanted the logo to nod to Minecraft, but also reflect the spirit of exploration at the heart of the app. Instead of just using the Minecraft font, I decided to draw it by hand in Procreate — because why make it easy, right? I even made a blocky little icon that didn’t make the final cut. Trust the process.

For fonts and colors, I let the logo stand on its own. The rest of the brand takes inspiration from it, but doesn’t copy it exactly. I chose Roboto for the typeface — it’s clean, super readable, and works perfectly across screens.

The colors came from Coolors (shoutout to palette randomizers). I picked shades of blue for their calm, friendly vibe. They're easy on the eyes and make the app feel welcoming and fun to explore.

Wireframes to High Fidelity

A friendly welcome to kick things off, with a big banner up top, a few hand-picked quests to help you ease in, and a light challenge if you're in the mood. Plus, a small dose of motivation; just enough to get you going.

The app says hey by name, picks up where you left off with your latest quests, and gives you a little win-celebration moment. There’s also a gentle quote at the bottom to keep the momentum going.

This is your corner of the app. Add your photo, share your vibe, see what you’ve achieved, and proudly display the titles you’ve earned. There’s also a quick FAQ section if you ever get stuck.

Catch up with explorers you follow — see their shared quests, photos, progress, and little moments from their journeys. Think of it as a cozy campfire where everyone swaps stories.
